Description
The great temple of Enlil in Nippur. Its name means "Mountain House," and it served as the religious center of Sumer.
Significance
Ekur was the supreme religious sanctuary where divine authority was legitimized. No king could claim rightful rule without the blessing of Enlil at Ekur.
