Monstrous guardian of the Cedar Forest, appointed by Enlil. Defeated by Gilgamesh and Enkidu in their first great adventure together.

Significance

Humbaba represents the terrifying unknown at the edges of civilization. Slaying him is both a triumph and a transgression against divine order.
